At Australian Catholic University (ACU), assisting veterans and their families to lead successful, rewarding lives after military service is a mission-aligned priority. ACU supports the continuing education of current and former members of the ADF personnel by offering dedicated programs tailored to post-service ambitions. Beyond the classroom, the ACU National Centre for Veterans and Families actively partner with industry and government to undertake vital research focused on improving long-term outcomes for the wider veteran community.

Higher education is an internationally established pathway for a successful military-to-civilian transition, broadening personal networks and opening doors to gainful employment. Through the ACU Veteran Entry Program, ACU recognises the immense value of military service. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis, converting military service into a university selection rank similar to an ATAR. As a guide, completing ADF basic training combined with two years of experience – regardless of military rank – will result in a selection rank of 82, which fulfils the entry requirements for most ACU bachelor’s degrees. ACU team provides a fully individualised assessment of military qualifications and experience to ensure veterans receive the best selection rank available.

ACU commitment to veterans extends well beyond admission – ACU provides comprehensive support across the entire student lifecycle. From first steps into higher education, our Veteran Transition Program and Recognition of Prior Learning framework help veterans navigate academic pathways and secure appropriate credit for extensive military training. Once a veteran commences study, the dedicated Student Veteran Support Program is there to smooth transition into university life, ensuring veterans have the resources, advocacy and community backing they need to thrive both academically and personally.
